Tips

- Auto Save -

Avoid working in multiple WordPress windows. Even I the more advanced user can confuse myself and save the wrong version of a document. That said should you lose something you are working on, you can always depend on the auto saved versions to recover a lost page or post.

- Home Page -

Don’t want your blog post to be your landing page? Want it to fall on a separate page called Blog? Easy. Simply go to Settings > Reading > Front Page Displays > select a static page as your front page and then assign a page called Blog as your posts page! Voila!

- Screen Options -

When editing a Page or Post, there may be more features to adjust then what you see. Look to the top right of your screen and look for a tab called “Screen Options” and click that as it will expand an area with topics and check boxes. Check off any additional item you may wish to modify in any given Page/Post.

- Post Excerpts -

Under your post box you will find more features to modify. One of interest is called Excerpt which allows you to write a shorter summary of a post. When an RSS publishes your post, it will imprint that excerpt to a page as well as giving search engines the opportunity to grab a cleaner rounded off summary. For example, you will notice on my blog page that my entries are short and clean 2 liners. I am all about the zen.

- Proof Reading -

I never knew how amazing this tool was until I discovered it was there! For the longest time I didn’t use this tool and I am kicking myself now for that. I highly recommend using this feature which you can locate in your profile settings. It catches everything from spelling to grammatical errors and much more. To set it go to personal settings under users through the admin dashboard or follow the drop down on the top right corner and you will find the settings half way down the page.
